Applicants or nominees should include evidence that the applicant has a record of sustained (and growing research productivity, based on grantsmanship, graduate student success, publications, invited lectures, and other forms of scholarly activity.
The KIP appointment is "at will" and can be held for a maximum of five years, to be renewed annually with approval by the Provost
The KIP awardee will receive $50K/year from the Kummer Institute, from which up to $7500 can be used to supplement the awardees salary and the remainder, after accounting for the benefits associated with the salary bump, can be used to support the research activities of the awardee
Funds do NOT roll over year-to-year
A KIP holder will provide an annual report covering activities over the previous fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30. A copy of the report will be sent to the Kummer EDP and will summarize how the KIP funds were expended, what activities of note were achieved with those funds, and a brief description of plans for the coming year
If a KIP awardee is appointed to an administrative position at more than 50% before the end of the five-year appointment, the KIP award will be withdrawn
If a KIP awardee is elevated to Curators' professor, or receives another endowed position, before the end of the five-year KIP appointment, the KIP award will be withdrawn

If a chair is the nominator, besides the information listed above, the chair's letter should include a description of the nominee's teaching record and their service to the department (and be included with the application).
A self-application should include a letter of support from the department chair that includes a description of the nominee's teaching record and their service to the department.
If you wish to nominate someone, you need to do it in a timely fashion so the nominee has time to submit their complete application prior to February 10th, 2025.
