TelePresence Conference Center
Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 201A Normal Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm CDT
Missouri S&T is excited to announce the completion of a new, state-of-the-art teleconferencing center in the Curtis Laws Wilson library. The center was made possible thanks to a very generous gift from UM System President Gary Forsee, CISCO and AT&T. The new TelePresence room allows faculty, students and staff to connect with colleagues at other UM System campuses via high-definition video and audio conferencing technology.
Features & Benefits:
Cisco TelePresence is a new generation video conferencing system that provides users an immersive face-to-face meeting experience using three 65” high-definition plasma televisions and CD-quality audio.
Each TelePresence room is designed to appear that you are in the same room (at least between the campuses) and communicating across the table with life-size colleagues.
Cameras and microphones are pre-positioned to eliminate the need for adjustments.
Presentations (like PowerPoint) can appear on the two 52” auxiliary monitors.
A document camera is available for use displaying the image on the 52” monitors.
Up to eighteen conferees can formally participate.
Users can schedule conferences via Microsoft Outlook calendaring.
End-users can initiate scheduled conferences using a TelePresence-associated (VoIP) telephone, just like making a regular call.
Calls can be point-to-point or multipoint.
End-users can also schedule conferences with other TelePresence systems throughout the world via AT&T or I2.
There is no charge to use the service.
The university saves travel time and money.
Reducing travel time can boost your productivity.
Go beyond standard audio conferencing by observing body language just like you’re sitting across the table in a meeting room. (More than 60% of communication is non-verbal).
Simple to schedule, simple to start.
Best Practices for Meetings
No food and drinks in the TelePresence room, unless authorized by the Provost. Never go behind the TelePresence unit, unless authorized to service. Never go inside the corral in front of the 3 screens, unless authorized to service.
Be conscientious of your appearance and manners. Remember, they can see you, and some people can read lips.
Close the door to the TelePresence room.
Close your laptop if not needed during the TelePresence session.
Do not block your microphone.
Do not lean across the dividers. You won’t be seen properly by the people on the other side.
Do not stand up and talk.
Do not touch the plasma screens.
End your TelePresence meeting on time.
Attempt to minimize the amount of cables that are on the table top.
Utilize the door “In Session” sign, if applicable.
Sit facing your TelePresence screen.
Speak using your normal voice.
Use Hold via the TelePresence IP Phone to refresh the screen.
